We’re excited to launch The HR Source Webinar Series, where we’ll share expert insights on staffing, HR strategy, and compliance.
Let’s learn, grow, and lead the future of HR together.
Why LinkedIn Is the Most Effective Online Tool for Jobseekers Aged 50andbetter
While most jobseekers understand that LinkedIn is a powerful job search tool, most job seekers aged 50andbetter aren’t using it effectively. LinkedIn isn’t just a job board, a search tool for recruiters, or social media for job seekers. It is a global database that enables jobseekers to find the resources they need to be more competitive in today’s job market. This presentation explored how 50andbetter job seekers can use the information on LinkedIn more effectively for a successful job search and the power of LinkedIn to enable older jobseekers to pursue the professional lives they’ve always wanted.
Dr. Barnes is a member of the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals, a graduate of the Leadership Montgomery Encore program, and provides LinkedIn training to older jobseekers, encore entrepreneurs, and nonprofit leaders. Her presentation provided the following participants with:

Skills-Based Hiring in the Age of AI: Rethinking Job Requirements, Culture, and Capability
Removing degree requirements is just the starting point. The real shift is harder: changing how we define jobs, challenging assumptions, and preparing organizations for a workforce that’s already being reshaped by AI.
Lynne Hostetter Piper (Founder, The Hostetter Group), shared what skills-based hiring is and what it isn’t. She shared how HR leaders can begin redefining job requirements and hiring practices without overwhelming the organization. Attendees walked away with a skills-based hiring toolkit which includes a framework to assess organizational readiness.

The AI Shift: From Buying Tools to Building Confidence
Everyone’s scrambling to buy the latest AI-powered HR tech—but much of it ends up unused, unloved, and wildly overpriced. In this talk, Brannon Skillern (Fractional Chief People Officer + scrappy AI builder) made the case for a radically different approach: using generative AI and no-code tools to solve real problems now, without waiting for enterprise software to catch up.
Brannon showed how curiosity—not capital—is the real key to transformation. Less procurement. More progress. Real-world DIY examples included: an HR chatbot in Slack that answers everyday questions 24/7, an AI-powered coach that helps managers lead better, and a Chief of Staff-style tool that compiles org-wide headlines, decisions, and blockers—no SaaS bloat required.

Turning Tension into Trust: Transforming Workplace Culture Through Conflict
Workplace tension is rising as return-to-work mandates, political differences, and constantly changing policies test interpersonal values and workplace trust. Shockingly, 60% of employees have never had even basic conflict management training while conflict resolution remains one of the top developmental needs for leaders at all levels. In this session, we explored how to address issues before they escalate and walked away with practical tools to turn tension into opportunity — building a resilient and healthy conflict culture where teams thrive and employees stay engaged.

It takes just $60 to activate one bed and deliver it to a child or family in need. Join us in transforming a warehouse full of beds into warm, safe places to sleep.
Donate today and help us unlock as many beds as possible.

On Thursday, May 8th, The HR SOURCE had the privilege of sponsoring a home as part of A Wider Circle’s Home Reimagined Project—and it was truly more than we imagined. Our team, alongside a volunteer professional interior designer and a generous moving company, helped transform a sparsely furnished one-bedroom apartment—just a few chairs and a mattress on the floor—into a warm, welcoming, and beautiful home. When the couple returned and walked through their front door, their faces lit up with emotion. The smiles, the gratitude, the feeling of peace—it was all priceless. It reminded us that sometimes, the smallest comforts can restore the greatest sense of hope. Even more powerful? They were just one of many. That day, 34 other families across the DMV experienced their own transformations through this initiative. We’re grateful to have played a small part in something so meaningful. May 8th wasn’t just a good day—it was a beautiful reminder of what community, compassion, and collaboration can do.
