How to Find Your Dream Job

How to find your dream job

One of the biggest challenges that we face in our career is finding our dream job. Nowadays, we are often presented with a lot of options which confuses us with what we should be doing and what occupation might be best for our interests. Most of the time, we opt for a job that would pay our rent and put food on the table. That’s a basic survival instinct for all of us, because we are human. The fear of not earning enough sacrifices the job that we are passionate about. So how can we pass through that fear and discover our dream job. Here are some tips to consider:

1. Be fearless and take the first step.

Let go of all your doubts and fears of not earning enough money for yourself or your loved ones. Tell yourself, “I can figure this out”. That along will help you give space so you can think clearly for your next steps.

2. Understand Passion

Passion is not just a hobby, it’s really interest plus engagement. Hobbies are just something

that you do to make you feel relaxed during stressful times. Passion is something you love to do even during tough times. When you are interested in something you should also be involved with it. Being involved means putting all your effort to create the best results regardless of the situation. For instance, a hobbyist photographer just loves to take a picture and create good images. A passionate photographer will continue creating magic despite hours and hours of taking pictures of tough clients that would stop a hobbyist on their tracks.

3. Understand your skills

It’s important that you also know what you are capable of. List down all the things that you are good at then prioritize the one that spark your interest. There are times that you might come up with a few skills which makes you happy but are just mediocre. Fuse those skills with what your good at so you can utilize all the best traits that you have. You can be an average artist with a big sense of humor so why not be a cartoonist. You can still apply your skills and be passionate about it at the same time.

4. Get real information by talking to real people.

Don’t just stick with researching facts from books. Real facts come from talking to people. Go

out and make informational interview to 3 or 4 people who is in the field or career that you are thinking of exploring or pivoting to. You’ll be able to observe some trends and common

information that will help you understand what the pros and cons are. Their experiences will

prepare you for what to expect on that certain field, what education you should take up, what

are the possibilities for you, etc. These facts will help you make smart decisions to get to your goal faster.

5. Challenge yourself and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

No more second thoughts at this stage. Jump right into it. You’re now loaded with all the facts

you need. It might not be all smooth flowing at the start but making incremental progress every day is a good sign. Challenge yourself to be better on what your passionate about and you’ll never work a day in your life anymore.
