The idea for The HR SOURCE was born in February 1994, but like any innovative idea, it took a little time (and a lot of hustle) to turn it into something real. At the time, there weren’t many staffing firms focused solely on placing HR professionals. That made it exciting, but also a little risky. If no one else was doing it, was there even a demand? Looking back over the last 30 years, the answer was a resounding yes!
By December of 1994, The HR TEMPSOURCE was officially launched. The first marketing flyers went out, and two weeks later, Amtrak became the very first client, followed by Humana Group Health. The first placement? A Benefits Specialist! That moment was huge, and it proved the idea had legs. Referrals rolled in, and more companies sought out this niche staffing solution.
By 1998, business was booming, and it was time to level up. The company incorporated and rebranded as The HR SOURCE, reflecting its growth beyond just temporary staffing. The HR SOURCE added HR Consulting, outsourced HR services, and New Supervisor and Compensation training services to its portfolio of offerings.
Between 1998 and 2000, The HR SOURCE expanded quickly, opening offices in Baltimore, MD; McLean, VA; King of Prussia, PA; and Raleigh, NC. Each new office meant more opportunities, more clients, and a bigger impact. Then came September 11, 2001, a moment that changed the landscape for businesses everywhere, and like many companies, The HR SOURCE had to adjust.
In 2002, the decision was made to consolidate all offices into a single headquarters, which allowed the company to remain strong and keep doing what we did best—connecting HR professionals with the right opportunities. While 9/11 represented a paradigm shift for us, it also delivered to The HR SOURCE its largest subcontract to establish the human resources contact center for the newly formed government agency, The Transportation Security Administration.
In 2003, The HR SOURCE landed our GSA Schedule, which was a game-changer. This meant we could officially do business with the federal government, opening a whole new world of opportunities. Working with government agencies gave The HR SOURCE the chance to expand and build strong HR teams in both the public and private sectors. It was a huge step forward and just the beginning of The HR SOURCE’s work in federal contracting!
The HR Source continued to evolve, as did our company logo. In 2015 we adopted the logo shown above to reflect the current times and better emphasize our commitment to HR services.
As CEO and Founder of The HR SOURCE, I am proud that we are not only focused on building great teams but are also committed to serving the community. Through our philanthropic arm, The HR SOURCE Foundation, we support local charities in a way that’s anything but ordinary. From the sizzling Grill, Grapes & Jazz competition to the indulgent Bite Night and the elegant Bridgerton Affair, these one-of-a-kind fundraising events brought people together for unforgettable experiences all while making a meaningful impact. Proceeds from these events have supported local charities such as So Others Might Eat, A Wider Circle, and the University of Maryland Capital Region Health Foundation.
From a simple idea to a well-known and respected HR staffing firm, it’s been an incredible journey. One filled with big wins, tough decisions, and a tremendous amount of passion for helping HR professionals and businesses thrive.
And now, as we celebrate 30 years in business, we are stepping confidently into our next chapter with a bold new look. This rebranding reflects who we are today: a modern, forward-thinking firm still grounded in the values that started it all. The new visual identity captures our energy, our expertise, and our continued commitment to elevating HR. Along with our new logo and color palette comes an updated company tagline:
“Connecting Great Companies to Great People”
This tagline reflects what we do best—matching organizations with the right talent and the right HR solutions. We take the time to understand our clients’ needs, respond quickly, and deliver top talent and services that create a win-win for both employers and candidates.
